Essentials of Oncology Massage

Service Description

Massage therapy for individuals with cancer used to be contraindicated. Nowadays with the right training and experience, massage therapists can safely use skilled touch to soothe pain, discomfort, insomnia, anxiety, and much more! In this two day comprehensive course, we focus on what we CAN DO for those living with cancer or are in early remission, and safe techniques used to not only touch someone physically, but spiritually and emotionally as well. Also taught in this class are precautions, contraindications, considerations, safety for the therapist and the client, medication guidelines, and how the mind-body connection is so important in this work. Safe techniques for lymphedema, neuropathy, and touch for the medically frail, as well as draping and positioning, are demonstrated and practiced. Self-awareness exercises, short videos and readings, and discussions about personal experiences with cancer round out this two day introductory class. Please bring writing materials, a set of sheets, shorts, and a tee shirt or tank top to class.

Student will be refunded 100%: -If the class is cancelled by instructor for any reason. Instructor will contact you personally to inform you of the cancellation. -If student voluntarily withdrawals from a class 30 days or more prior to class date. Student will be refunded 50%: -If student voluntarily withdrawals 15-29 days in advance of the class date Student will not receive a refund: -If student voluntarily withdrawals 14 days or less prior to scheduled class. *Special exceptions may apply
